Hello! I’m Vicky, a Brit living in the US, and the person behind Training with Vicky. Fitness hasn’t always been part of my life. At school, I did absolutely no exercise, and it wasn’t until my 30s that I began working out, mostly as a way to manage my weight. What surprised me was how quickly I discovered that moving my body made me feel so much better; physically, mentally, and emotionally. Since then, running, hiking, and working out have become so much more than exercise; they’re how I explore new places, take care of my health, and challenge myself.
After running several 5ks, halfs and full marathons, including my all-time favourite, the Chicago Marathon, I discovered that I loved helping friends put together training plans just as much as I enjoyed lacing up my own trainers. To make sure I was giving them safe, effective guidance, I earned my RRCA Level 1 running coach certification, and more recently, my NASM Personal Training qualification.
These days, while distance running is still at the heart of what I love, I’ve also developed an enjoyment for lifting weights, taking Orange Theory classes and hiking on the trails near DC. I’m especially interested in how women can adapt their training in their 30s, 40s, and beyond, to stay strong, lean, and full of energy. At 47, I know first-hand how empowering it feels to keep setting new goals and proving what our bodies are capable of.
Through this blog, I share my experiences, tips, and reflections in the hope of inspiring others, particularly women like me, to find joy in movement, build confidence, and discover just how much they can achieve. Whether it’s chasing a marathon finish line, lifting heavier in the gym, or simply taking that first step to become healthier, I’m here to cheer you on.
