10 ways to make it easier to get out of the door for a run

Everyone has days that they don’t want to lace up their shoes and get out of the door. I’ve learned not to rely on motivation (it’s failed me multiple times) and so have a few strategies that make it easier to commit to going for a run. It always helps to plan ahead, so here are some tips for increasing your chances of getting out there:

1. Plan your distance and route ahead of time.

2. Commit to a time to head out of the door.

3. Lay out your workout clothes ahead of time.

4. Charge up your phone/headphones/watch the day before (this is the one I’m worst at).

5. Create a new playlist to run to.

6. Select a podcast or audio book to listen to and only listen to it when running.

7. Meet a friend for a run or join a group so that you have some accountability buddies.

8. Plan to run to something you’d like to see e.g spring flowers or a particular view.

9. Create a plan for the week and stick it to the fridge so you can satisfyingly check your miles off when you get home.

10. Plan a specific workout ahead of time to mix things up – perhaps some faster 800s or tempo miles.
